I think you'd find it beautiful, as it was intended, a place for quite repose and contemplation.

How weird... that combination of park and cemetary...
I am still not sure whether it is nice or creepy....

Majroj, that's quite a war story.
Not surprising though. Made me think of the flushing the Koran down the toilet stories from Guantanamo. War does not bring out our finer qualities.

You'd love Fontenelle Forest

As for cemetaries...
Sacramento had an historic one removed to allow construction of a movie theater early in the 1900's, later replaced with a shopping center.
My co-worker in Special Forces/Viet Nam says they used to set camp overnight in cemetaries to "tell" the locals they were not to be messed with (by "trampling" the local sensibilities) and to allow for open zones of fire if they were attacked at night.

Ginnie, at this point, I agree with you.
I'd probably leave my body to science, if there were any good parts left. I know RG would want the same. Thanks always for your encouraging response to my writing.

Interesting perspective Cynthia..
..and beautifully written, as always! I like the idea of 'managed nature' though do love the wild. Steve and I have talked about our after life wishes but it's very confusing, living in a country that isn't our own and family scattered throughout the world. I was all for a ground burial until lately and now if I die young, I'd want my body donated to science..have actually put this in writing just before my surgery. While I find some solace, visiting my sister's grave, I see her more clearly on a beach, under a palm tree or in the rays of the sun. I think it's important to have your final wishes fulfilled, it's also necessary to take into consideration those who are left. Leave me in the wild, I say! Whatever's left of me.
