Whacky46,
I have a VCR tape of my children when they were very small that my own father put together with music. On the tape my forth son is sitting on a little, yellow saddle- potty chair with fireworks being the very next scene. The music in the background is dramatic. Then, my father himself is shown attempting to get into his car and jumps back out to pat his pockets looking for his keys. I could not watch it for years, because of the grief, but now after seventeen years of him being gone, I can watch it and it is one of my most precious treasures.
I also have multi casette tapes of my children when they were little, that I now have on my hard drive, of them singing, reading, playing, crying or laughing. I can hear my adult children, anytime I want, just as they spoke years ago. I love it.......

My tapes
Ive filimed a lot here durring the war. Ive even made a video diary to my wife. She thinks Im silly but I talk to our future kids in it. Your story made me think how things like that will make them feel when we are dead and gone.

whacky, I cherish the video of my dad's 70th birthday bash.
Everyone is very 80's, with funny hair and pink shirts with collars up and hair over one eye or up in the air like Kid's flat top of the group Kid n' Play. We all wore some plaid and we had bag pipes, the Seven Pipers from here and then a son-in-law sang in Spanish and we all sang along. Watching Dad dance to the pipes, sing along to Alla en el Rancho Grande and having lasting video moments of his hugs, are precious, now that he's gone.
I love whoever invented personal tape machines. We capture life, truly.

That sounds like a great memento, Whacky. All I have are ordinary photographs.

I for one am in
favor of hearing the whole tale. What a treasured memory. I have a cassette tape of my dad giving a sermon as a lay preacher. I wasn't there at the service, but was sent a copy. I really treasure just being able to hear his voice on ocassion.

I think you're right
I think you'll find that tape is worth way more than the grand prize. Well-constructed blog!
