Wordwizard,

Yep, the instant gratification that Katray spoke about is a big factor here are Blogit.  It keeps us busy along with the other stuff that keeps us occupied, distracted and demotivated.  It takes real discipline to submit once we have something written.  If I did this for a living, things would be far different.

Mspickles.
There really is no other way. I just kind of prime myself and get to it. That's just what I did yesterday.

I come back to that same old thing...
If we really knew we were going to be paid and people wanted to read our writing, we'd be out there submitting everything we've got. The reason we all love to write at blogit is because we get a response. I think!

word.smith - just do it!
as much as you don't want to, just grit your teeth and jump on in! easier said then done, but that's my two cents on the matter - take it or leave it and by the way, enjoy the vacation!

Mmm-w

One day, you will take your courage in your hand and submit. You'll never know how good you really are until your work is gone through by an editor. I've had more pieces rejected than I've had printed, but that hasn't stopped me from going on. I feel awful inside when I get a rejection, but I think of all those prominent writers who had their work rejected before they got their first real break.

oh i relate completely....

for me though, its a fear of the rejection... so i lose sight of my goals.

self preservation, self protection.....

don't know about you,no one could ever do my rewrites, we each have too unique a vision...

Katray, you do know exactly how it goes!

I am the exact same way.  Post here, instant feedback, feel happy, can't or won't bother to tidy up for submission. Well I gave msyelf that serious talk today and got on with it. I'm gonna repost that article on cell phones. It's not funny, like I want it to be, but it's much lighter reading now.

Kat, the time is now or okay, perhaps tomorrow  but get started with submitting something soon.  You can do it. It just takes some serious energy, time and dedication.

Quirky, I just might hire you at that.

I just have to make my first million first.  Somtimes the thought of a rewrite is sooooo daunting.  And as you said, the passion just plain fizzles.  Funny, I told got up in my own face, made myself sit down and do a rewrite of the last article I wrote. It's turned out a lot lighter, thanks to you guys.

Oh how I can relate Word

I keep reminding myself of how much satisfaction I will feel if I get something finished and sent off, whatever the results, but I seem to be an instant gratification type - post an unedited/incomplete version here, get quick feedback and attention. And a penny or two..

I'm planning on having a serious talk with myself very soon. Time to enter the real world of writing!

word,
I'm pretty much the same way...have a lot of unfinished projects...sometimes I just lose my passin for completing them, and no matter how hard I try, I can't get it back. In general, though, I love doing rewrites...wanna hire me? ;-)

David,
There's no time like the present. Channel some of that energy you have....focus. You can do it you really wanna.

The last line of your post said it all!

".........Success never came to anyone who lounged around on their back end doing nothing and I doubt it will come to me either......."

That is so true, I speak from experience (or lack of effort)!
