Souter is stripping away our rights?
I thought those two, Stephens and Souter, were the moderates on the court. We are in an age of  knee-jerk conservatism that is confusing everyone. Perhaps we should reign in all the extremists on the loose so we all don't lose.

With all respect . . .
. . . the only thing that's "loose" here is your civics.

"I can see him trying to elect the most controversial justice ever in the court's history in order to take the heat off his back about Iraq. There doesn't seem to be much that either houses of Congress can do about the situation except just do his bidding. The American people loose again."

Any justice he nominates (that's nominates, not elects) is going to engender more controversy than just about any in history. The Senate liberals have made it so, with some - Kennedy and Biden, I think - saying they will oppose anyone he nominates. Only one house of Congress - the Senate - is involved in the confirmation process, and I just pointed out where the liberals in the Senate stand on this.

You're right about "The American people loose (sic) again." We "loose" as long we're stuck with a bunch of obstructionist congressmen who want more justices on the bench in the mold of Stephens and Souter who think nothing of stripping away our rights.
