Merrick,
I don't watch much either. It's just all getting weirder every day.

The truth has been spoken
I couldn't agree with you more and that's why I don't watch TV.

behindamask,
I couldn't agree more. It's all mind boggling. But, ya got the I.P. out there that need their fix of mindless crap to watch to keep them entertained. You can't really expect them to watch anything that actually stimulates the brain or makes them actually have to think, do ya?

"I Want To Be A Hilton" That's a good one!
Okay, now you've got me going. First of all, they've got Mama Hilton on national television teaching people "proper etiquette." I know this ONLY because I saw the first 10 minutes. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Paris the one who had two sex tapes dispersed for all of America to see? And, didn't her ex-boyfriend, one of the boy=band guys beat her ass? Do we REALLY want to be a Hilton? Uh, NEGATIVE! Dumb TRAMPS!
And, getting fired by Donald Trump isn't really that funny - but I must admit, his hair do is! And, The Real World on MTV - what's real about that? It should be called "The Real World - If You Lived With A Bunch of Strangers and Had Your Experience Taped 24/7." And, Survivor - once was enough. I mean how many times can we experience the same old "false alliances", butt cheeks, blurred booby shots, and the final judgement? And, the best "worst" one of all: whatever the hell the name is of Paris Hilton and Nicki Ritchie. Two stupid, spoiled, ignorant, little money leeches pretending to do something REAL.
Oh the madness. The madness!

scoop,
I agree. I know there are a few shows on tv that are of decent and intelligent quality, but they have become scarse these days. I LOVED M*A*S*H and Saint Elsewhere. Currently, I do watch a couple of cable shows that I love. Like, Six Feet Under, the Sopranos (me and HolyGrail are big fans of those two shows) but they seem to disappear for like, a few years or so before a new season!

I also like Who's Line is it Anyway and Nip Tuck. ER is good, too. That's about it. Those reality shows are just a bunch of crap. Oh, and what's with that new I Wanna Be a Hilton shit???

Spitfire, like you, I saw it surfing and it looked stupid, Survivor started
all this crazy junk. If you look back at TV in the 70's and 80's we had some good shows. They say the Golden age of Comedy on TV was the 50's and early 60's but we had good shows like Barney Miller, WKRP, MASH, TAXI, Sanford and Son, The Bunkers. But even the westerns and private eye shows were good. Now shows like St. Elsewhere, LA Law are few and far between. ER is good but now shows like Third Watch and NYPD Blue are gone, I guess that opens up more time for stupid stuff.

HolyG,
For their "15 minutes" they choose to barf on national tv. Brilliant, aren't they?

Jimmy,
Now
there's an interesting concept. Hmmm, pay per bite. Yeah, that sounds good. However, I still wouldn't watch. Unless of course, you were on the show. Then I would have to!

blackcat,
I don't stop to look at that show, though. I can't. It's too gross and I HATE seeing others gag or puke. Blach.

Uh, they're dipshits!
I'm so friggin' tired of reality TV. I much favor fiction, a plot that is engaging, and people who are "acting" stupid - not just plain humanly stupid.

I commented on Fear Factor the other day. It's awful. You could not pay me enough to eat a live cockroach and have it spit or bite me while I chew it. UGH! $50k is not nearly enough, and as you point out it's not guaranteed!
I equate the popularity of these types of shows to train wrecks. It's hideous to see, but everyone still stops to look!

Spiffy,
It really isn't the puke shows that bother me--it's that fact that they are so popular. The viewing public is what frightens me. Maybe we could get thousands of fans onto a cruise of the Bermuda Triangle. Call it
Excitement Area 51: The Triangle. Suddenly they lose radio contact, get lost at sea, and are never heard from again.

Strat,
Quit his job for $25,000? Holy Jesus, what an idiot. Oh, yeah, I have seen that show when Chappel does the crack guy on Fear Factor. Have you ever seen the skit thing he does at "the internet mall?" That's frickin funny as hell!

Oh yeah,
have you seen Dave Chappelle do his Crack Head character going on "Fear Factor?" It's hysterical, if you can catch a rerun of it.

They are, in fact, Dipsh*ts. Every one of them.
Reminds me of a guy here in this area-- old dumbass working out at the lumber yard on third shift. The guy actually had a car one time that he spent all his money on trying to make look like "Kit," the car from Knight Rider. The cops nailed him for having an illegal steering wheel, but that's another story.
Anyway, he won something like $25,000 on one of those scratch off lotto tickets, walked into work on Monday, told 'em all to take his job and shove it, he'd hit the promised land.
I imagine it lasted long enough for about two trips to the strip joint and a new bass boat. Don't know where he's working now.

spitfire...by limiting viewing habits to watching cooking shows, C-Span, an occasional oldie mystery, sports event or biography, you prevent the intrusion of mindless crud.
