Wiley, I'm not a good craftsman
like you so I usually take jobs like that to the professionals. We have a gazillion frame shops where I live, but with the number of photos you have in mind it could break the bank. I know you can buy machines that laminate stuff, it might pay you to invest in something like that. Not sure what effect the plastic has on the photo itself. I wouldn't laminate a rare, old photo that has no negative, I'd frame it with acid free paper backing and a mat.

I like your posting about the pictures luv.

I have a wall like that downstairs, all my children and step-children, siblings, staring back at me, some of whom I don't even hear from anymore.
I had the thought last week that I was going to take photographs I have taken in the past twenty five years, of wildlife, mountains, scenery, foreign countries, Canada, U.S., friends etc.
I was going to find some kind of laminate and cut pine boards for back up and mount hundreds of pictures I have taken over all the years.
Can you tell me anything about photograph laminating/mounting Cynthia luv?

Whacky46, I bet you're not alone.
Lot's of boxes in lots of attics and garages and we all say "Who are these people?"

Ginnieb, unexplained suicide
in a family is haunting. It's one thing if they did an autopsy and found a tumor on the brain or something, that at least provides a definitive answer to "why?" but to have it hidden is much more difficult to deal with.

Nice Story Majroj, I don't
think digital will change that much. My daughter emails me photos which I promptly print on high quality photo paper to keep, frame or put on the fridge like all the rest.

I have a trund full of photos most of whic I don't know who they ar.
My mom didn't know either...I guess her mom never told her. Now I try to write the name and date of each photo I take. Thankfully most of my Dad's family did that.

I think Cynthia...
...that perhaps we all reach an age when delving into family history is important to us..I know it is now to me...I'm fascinated by the stuff! The idea of family secrets is also amazing....nowadays I don't know if this would happen...we're a much more open bunch. My mother was pregnant with me when her brother committed suicide and I didn't find that out until about 10 years ago..knew her brother was dead at the age of 27 but she'd never tell us how he died. I like your idea of the wall of ancestors...they are part of who you are! Great post Cynthia!

I wonder how digital photography will change this?
Last summer my wife and I were alone (!) for about a week in a little "cottage" in California's wine country, and we spent two days leisurely going through photos going back thirty years and sometimes more. It was a "good time" and I think that it was what the photos were "for".
Having gone through troves of photos after my father's death, seeing photos of great aunts once removed and friends of people my parents once knew, I try to respect the significance the memories hold for them.

Wow, I was just thinking about posting something
related to preserving your photos/memories. I may do it still but I have not figured out how to go about it yet. I was planning on discussing the how-to part though
