Billy
I look at the facts about Elvis and I do not see a person I wish to have be representative of my country. He was more or less stereotypical white trash who made it big. Sure he had talent, but no morals.

Kooka...so much I agree with you on in this post. It should be

the most noteworthy American or something besides greatest.  I avoided the program because such lists just show how short our collective memories are, not only as a nation but as a species.  I totally agree that omitting Mark Twain says much more about the audience than the author.  I do think you should re-examine your facts on Elvis...he really did do a lot and was a pretty good guy as well.  Remember he was an entertainer, not a social commentator like so many blowhard musicians these days.  He really did get Hegelian on music styles and put on a good show.

I think Ben Franklin will be my choice as greatest American.

I think Rock and Roll is the result of my pets.  See, I played classical violin, and it probably just bothers their ears.  They don't relate to the music, and sometimes, it must really bother them.  But when my current cat does hear me pull out the violin again later, it's going to bring back some old memories of when his sister cat was still alive, but it will only serve to depress him and make him feel alone, because he really has no part of the music himself.  Yup.  That must be what's going on here.  It's annoying, but I think I can accept it for what it is so long as it's the payback from my cat.

Kooka, It is not a Greates Americans thing at all. The way it must be

conducted, that is for profit, is to tap the teeni-boppers.  What it is is ?Who Are Your Favorite Americans?"

Another possible way to lend credence to this moronic show would have been to dis-aggragate the top 100 into Centuries.  After all, we cannot expect the average Joe 6-banger to know much about history.  Sad but true. I agree with you.  I think Emily Dickenson was a great one. But she was a cock-eyed recluse.  Go figure.
