Original, that's kinda like leaving

praying and reading the Bible 'til bedtime and then falling asleep while at it. Doesn't do you any good.

I almost always wait until all are in bed to write.....
and then I am too tired.....

A sad thruth John,
unless of course if you're in a situation where if you don't write you don't eat.  Then it become first and last.

Donaldoji,
you lucky thing you, but I know it's gonna catch up with you. Enjoy the writing as it flows.   I haven't been by for any stories lately.

L.E., I should be that disciplined and organized!

NCWriter,

The guilt trips do cause me to leave the computer and put in that time with the family.   I get to thinking about what is more important - even if I really want to write. Unfortunately, children in particular won't wait until we're done doing our thing. They want our attention now, plus there are the other things that demand our attention, so yes it is a diffucult thing to strike just the write balance. We may never get it done perfectly, but we can do the best we can in our situation.

When it comes to a real life balance, writing always comes last, word.  The present is the only present there is.

The kitchen sink is full of dishes, I haven't taken...
the garbage out, laundry all over the place, spider webs, ants, stacks of papers and debris everywhere--but the writing's going fine!

Word, what I meant was that I set aside part of everyday for writing. It's between when my wife goes to bed and when I do, roughly from 10:30pm to midnight, sometimes a little bit later. Anything else is a bonus.

You're so right.
It's all a balancing act. The whole thing, life, is a balancing act. But writing can be a particularly difficult balancing act. I think we tend to think of our writing as something selfish sometimes. And THAT pulls in the whole guilt thing when doing it? Making it all the more difficult to balance...

Thanks for coming by Carolyn.

Mspickles, you can be sure I'll be by to see what you've done this time.

Yes, life does inspire us in our writing so we do need to take some time to live it, as we pursue our writing goals.

L.E. I guess only a few of us can say that we spend

the better part of our day writing. I think I'd enjoy being able to devote as much time to writing as I want, but that's very unlikely to happen any time soon.

Sassy, truthfully by the time I get done spending

time with my son most evenings and allowing him the use of the computer, there is little time left for writing anything.  The time we spend together and the time he spends in his learning activity on the pc are very precious. I have to make allowance for this.

I agree that breaks are necessary as well as valuable for us to produce our best.

Word, Right but before that, make a list of jobs that need done.
That's where I'm at with still a full week of work ahead of me...and they're suggesting a summer job!  Hhaha!  At least I got the grass mowed.

Kingmi, the thing is now to actually allocate time limits
to the various jobs that we need to complete.

Life always has priorities. Being with loved ones and enjoying the time you spend with them is one of the most important things to do. Yes, there should be a balance but only you can determine that. I think a good writer needs to have that balance - life inspires many.

Speaking of which though, I did pull my finger out and had a go at writing another short story using editormum's blog seeds. It's a bit different from my normal short stories and I'm not sure if it works - but I was experimenting with style.

It's at http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Writers/BlogSource.aspx?blog=15493 if you'd like to visit.

Time's the most limited resource. Although I write a lot, it actually fits into a small part of my day.

I thoroughly agree with you
Although I love writing, my family is first and foremost. I think that breaks are a necessity just to get our thoughts and goals back into perspective. Sometimes its the little things that are of the most importance. Quality time with a loved one can mean so much.
