Burly, Darrke, and Calebs, thanks for your comments.
Burly, I remember those days. Catholic girls weren't allowed to date Protestant boys either. I actually was starting the dating scene when that started to change but I can remember it well.
Darrke, history truly does repeat itself, doesn't it.
Calebs, I what you mean but the people fighting about whether or not to wear choir robes and over the music and all probably just want the services to be as meaningful and reverent as possible and all have strong ideas and probably all have the best intentions. Still, that's how the bigger battles within individual churches get started.

Sometimes the fighting is subtle infighting
I am amazed at how much infighting there is in Christian churches alone based on issues like the style of music used in worship services. Imagine the horror of an ederly church member when they hear someone playing guitars and drums in the sanctuary. Similar dissention can come from whether the choir should wear robes, whether to clap after the choir or a soloist sings, and whether to spend chuch money to install LCD projectors to throw song lyrics and PowerPoint presentations on the wall.

I've been listening to "An Outline of History" by H.G. Wells. It's interesting how often religion is used as a rallying point for war. The wars are usually economically motivated though...religion is just a tool to recruit soldiers and win approval. Gee...doesn't even sound like ancient history, does it?

Rame
Back in the dark ages when I was young, Protestant girls were usually forbidden by their parents to date Catholic boys. It wasn't that long ago either.

Tigerprincess,
Thanks for your comment. What radio show is that? I'd like to listen to it sometime if I can get it in the Kansas City, Missouri area.

Your blog
reminds me of a radio show my husband listens to in the morning. This morning they were talking about how you never catch an atheist involved in a religious war.

Rame-Most all religious literature has 'Golden Rule' language, as you no doubt know. Now, in the nuclear age, is a good time for humans to practice that overlooked universal standard, which somehow got lost...or has never been found.

Thanks for reading, Tapsel and Avant-garde.
It just irks me that so many people throughout history have been in wars in the name of religion when religion truly didn't always have anything to do with it. It also irks me that people feel they have to fight over religion. I can understand fighting against not beling allowed to practice your religion or against someone who is persecuting you because of your religion, especially if it is life threatening persecution, but I just can't understand hating someone because he is of another religion, race, gender, political affiliation, or any other difference. Thanks for your comments.

another good post, RAME
we have to believe in being a victim in order to fight with another. our culture is heavily invested in this behavior.
