Who gave those people permission?
We did! We gave them permission by giving up personal responsibility in many areas. We elected governments and told them to take care of the aged, the poor, jobs, our safety, whatever.
In doing so, we gave them more and more power. Those that hanker after power seek powerful positions (not for the good of mankind) and then they use those positions to do what they want to do.
The price of electing others to do what we should be doing locally is that they abuse the power we give them.
