Symph - it's scary to think any bloggers could see me in my boxer shorts
raggedy t-shirt and big red bathrobe blogging at 12:49 in the afternoon. If you all lived near me I'd have to get dressed and put on makeup every day!!! Aaack!

Everything I write about is true and its me, I do choose to leave out bits of my life though. I don't think I would like to live next door to everyone here, sometimes not knowing who people are makes them more exciting.

It's always easier online...

Living together in physical proximity is not the same thing as associating with each other in cyberspace. In cyberspace, you do have a lot more freedom about when and if you take people's company. But the way you come across in writing can also be very different from the way you come across in real life. This is true whether or not you are honest in the things that you report about yourself. Some friendships will survive, others will not. Most of them will be changed in one way or another from the transition, either for the better or for the worse. But the internet will never be a substitute for meeting and communicating with people face to face.

I am who I say I am---only I'm a bigger bitch in real life.

Like you, I'm also a quiet person so I doubt anyone in real life would get the chance to know me so quickly.

Symphony...

I try my best to be who I say I am, but life doesn't always work out that way.  I think all people, friends or not, have things they hide about themselves.  Sometimes it's done to protect ourselves...sometimes it's out of a need for privacy and safety.

As far as living next door to one another...It might be great for a while...but sooner or later I think we'd all probably get on each other's nerves!!!...

Symphony,
I do come clean here, as much as I can. You'd probably like me if you met me and vice versa, but the thing we have in common in writing: we'd probably have a great time talking over coffee or a beer, then go shopping.

Very good questions, Symph!

IMO its simpler to make friends on the net. Social class differences are virtually absent here, whereas in real life they would count for more.

Symphony I am not good at the visitation thingy. I think I
like the computer better but still I would love to meet you and have you visit and see my beautiful countryside. I am about to come clean. In just a little while I will begin my Autobiography on Memoires of A Nobody! Hope you will read it. I am sure I would love being your friend in my neighborhood and your little ones, I am just not good at visiting. I am on the computer too much. LOL

We'd probably be less honest
if we lived near each other. The computer sort of puts us at a safe distance.

posted by jollyjeff on May 23, 2005 at 2:48 PM | link to this | reply

Since we'd all be inside busy at our computers,
we'd make great neighbours. No disturbing the peace and all that.

There are different levels of friendship. I'm sure you would retain all your friends here. ;-)

Symph,
HEHE...

If I came "clean" about who I am here, two things would happen. I would earn more readership, A. I would lose readership, B. For the most part I tell it like it is around here. I leave out things that are just too personal, even in my journal. Some things I'm afraid to say. Always get the feeling Big Brother is breathing down my neck as I type.

Good day to you, Lady! :)

we can close the page and not appear rude...and answer when we like......but I am very sad you don't want to live next door to me

posted by _Symphony_ on May 23, 2005 at 1:04 PM | link to this | reply

no i dont think we should live next to each other...  writing about yourself is one thing, but the bonus in it is that you dont hear the persons voice or have them around.....   to be honest, some people have a squeaky voice, some people stick like leeches, some smell, some dont know when to stop talking.... there is so much...   on blogit you can shut the page or not read when you dont feel like it. But in real life when people are in your face what do you do?> You bear with it or shoot them

I am as honest as it gets
on Blogit and off. I have 3 daughters, been married almost 20 years and have a crazy life. Most of my neighbors and family like me and I would invite almost anyone in for a hot cup of java. I can be a sassyass, but only for a good cause. I have been published, but I am far from making the big time. I have OCD when it comes to my home being clean and I have a passion for expensive cars. I am a humanitarian and a vegetarian. I dislike mean people and cannot tolerate rudeness. I am quiet & serious sometimes, and loud and funny other times. Right now I am a mess, clad in my jogging pants and Bugs Bunny slippers.
