- Go to SO GOD IS REALLY INTO THE WHOLE CHAOS THING THEN
out of chaos comes order
or some semblance of such
or so humans would like to believe.
here's the thing
chaos is a natural thing - of "god"
order is a man-made thing -- coming from the attempts at the ordered societies of the first great civilizations. The rulers of those civilizations needed order in order to control that populace within their territories -- thus came the first laws (tree of knowledge of good and evil) with that purpose in mind.
so Humans conceived of order as a good thing -- and some of the creation myth reflects that "and the earth was without form and void" -- and the successive stages of "order" arising from the "word of god".
nature, more than anything else, operates on the method of trial and error -- why do you think there are so many extinct species that we can only know through their fossilized remains? Put enough stuff out there and some of it will remain.
but Humans want order -- want things to be ordered to be just the way they want things to be. they have a problem with chaos.
they will resist chaos.
well, here's to chaos.

If you read the whole Old Testament
you won't see God doing much controlling. Israel had free reign in doing whatever it wanted. God disapprove and in the end allowed Israel's and later Judah's enemies to destroy them. When God did figh for Israel, he used all sorts of means to do so. Rarely did he use power, more often trickery. Although someday, God promises to destroy it all and start over, except with the flood, he has never done this.
If you really want to understand the Judeo Christian concepts of God, you must read the Bible for yourself. Too many Christians make God into their own image rather than the other way around. Try reading it in a modern translation and you will find that except for a few passages it is very clear and straight forward.

Kooka..
In my view, God is the universe; it is the stuff that all is made of. It is not he nor she, this nor that; it is all that is. Everything that lives and gains awearness through that experience is made of this Source. It does not judge, we do. It does not punish, we do..we always choose how we use it,and what we make of it. God, Source, whatever you choose to call it, is everything we experience including the emotions of love and hate.
Very nice post, thank you.

Chaos and Order
are ancient ideas found in Sumerian and Egyptian culture. The polytheistic religions of both alow for Chaos as the begining and Order coming out of Chaos to manifest Creation. On another level, the Greeks realized that the Gods were not all powerful. They could not answer for the Fates, those mysterious experiences laid on humanity that put a wrench in all the well laid plans--mostly related to weather and Earth's temperment, earthquakes, floods, drought, volcanoes, etc. But human beings were manipulated by the Fates in matters of Love, fortune, war, and favour with the Gods. We see irony in most romantic stories that cannot be controled by our highly intellectual abilities--foresight, prophecying, oracles--are our attempt to use our intelligence to prepare for what may come, yet there is still much room for error in the best laid plans.
There is a view that can be observed in nature that is not Chaos or Order--Revolvation. Everything, yes, everything, revolves from one form to another in a cycle of being built up and deterioration, or break down. Trees grow from seed, fall in the woods, decay and provide nutrients for other trees to grow (as well as a host of other things). The Earth moves and builds up mountains in some places and in others, they collapse through earthquakes, ice ages, floods. The air revolves from sea to clouds to rain/snow and back to the sea. Because we cannot control nature, we call her behavior Chaotic. Because we have intelligence, we try and put things into a controled paradigm so we can feel security--we call it Order. There isn't any real "Chaos" or "Order" but what we make ourselves. God has nothing to do with either. Even in the Universe, stars collide, explode into smaller substances that converge and meld back into planets around a newly "organized" star. It happens on a scale we cannot comprehend, so it looks like Chaos to us.
We seem to spend too much time looking from "beginning to end" that we don't see the circle we are a part of--more to the point, the sphere we inhabit. If we stop holding on to the ancient ideas of Creation and Destruction as the answer to reality, maybe we will open up to the realization that there is no beginning and there is no end.
Peace,

did you know that a pin head size of matter
