MerryAnne, a job would be easier. I applied for one and I hope I get it so I don't have to think. Groceries, what are they? I've been living on cereal and yogurt

Why DO we do it?

Congrats!  I know you must feel a great sense of accomplishment.

MayB,
I think that when you work for yourself (I know you have clients but you know what I mean) you tend to work harder than you would if you had a 9-5 job.

Of course I'm one to talk - I have this 24 hour a day job and am trying to squeeze in extra time for writing. But so far so good. (now if I could only remember where I left my groceries....)

JohnMcnab, don't feel like that. In my case I am driven by economics and am not too clever because I work too much

Ca88andra, sometimes it is easier than cooking and besides it was all nutritious stuff. Have you got started yet? Oh dear, I hope this sorry tale of mine hasn't put you offf.

terpgirl30, yes, you know what I'm saying. Just lately every piece I have done has tested me even more. That's what comes of being reliable and OK at what I do--I get rewarded with an even tougher assignment. Next week they have let up and given me a couple of things I know a bit about. What a relief.

I know what you mean. When the readers/clients are people who know their business the standard demanded is high.
Yeah I am taking it easy now but tomorrow I will start over again.

I liked your point about the antique shop. I have to think about something which offers a complete contrast. In a way I like the teaching for that reason as I enjoyed the interaction with the students.

Yes, you have to be crazy

But you did it just right.  People go to specialized or trades because they think the  standards will be lower and they have a better shot of getting stuff in.  It's just the opposite.  The first newsletter I did (gaming/lotteries/casinos) went directly to the decision people for these places.  This was in the early '80s, and they charged over $300 for a 4-page twice a month newsletter.

Entrepreneur's idea for money ideas will be far different from Forbes or the The Money Papers or IBD.  You better know what you're talking about when you move up the food chain.  The good news is, once you know the stuff, the lingo is so second nature to you, you know where to go for the information.  It never gets easier since you really have to look for stuff no one has yet, but at least you know what to ask and where to go to get answers.

Rest...eat a sandwich!

MayB,
I like your posts.  I haven't been here real frequently, but I am sure that I have read your work some time recently.  I got here by following the link that you left in a comment on my Tuna sandwich post.  I'll be back for more reading after I have slept enough to clear my head.  I felt about like this when I did that post, so I'm not doing a pushdown post just now.   JJ
