True, but it's like bumperstickers on cars that say, "Free Tibet".  I don't have much control over these situations. I can worry, wring my hands, but in the end, I think my influence is limited to what I can do locally

thanks for the comment - i suspect another aspect of the problem is the short attention span of the general public: the tendency to see the initial response to a situation (in the generalised terms postulated by the media) but the absence of interest in watching and responding to the long term developments once the headlines die down.

The opportunism and lack of conscience of these "reconstructionists" is amazing.  Yet it is so common.  It's why I don't really put much credence is centralized planning as being the best interest of a community.  Even the best-intentioned agencies and corporations seem to have their own best interests at heart.  Nice post.
