No worries Symphony!
I order online all the time..been doing it for many years. I've booked dozens and dozens of flights online and I shop online constantly...well not constantly...but fairly often. With family all over the world it's much easier to buy gifts online and let the company ship directly to them. Come to think of it..there are some shoes I wanted to order online. Thanks for reminding me! ;)

Hi SYMPHONY,
I love shopping on line, because I don't like going into stores.  I think you will find it all positive and so very convenient.    jacenta

Symphony,
We've ordered groceries twice online and had really good results, except that the prices are higher, because we're really paying for the convenience, so we started going back to the store to get the bargains.  I haven't had any problems with giving my credit card.  I hesitate, too, cause I'm old school and like to do things with cash or in person, the only thing I really worry about is that they might put a hold on more funds than the actual amount spent or overcharge me somehow and cause me to overdraft, but it hasn't happened.

Not to worry, Symph!
You will persevere.

In fact, I just ordered some stuff online this morning.  :)  It'll be fine, I'm sure.

No problems here either Symphony
And I shop quite a bit on-line and have for a long time. Just be sure to check your credit card statements carefully every month.

I've ordered on line before with no bad experiences. The only time, I got pissed was on ebay. I bid on a car and at the last minute, they took it down which is bad sportsmanship but did I expect? A car salesman is a car salesman on or off the internet.

soon you'll be gone shopping and we won't see much of you anymore...

"Dear Ms Symphony, Thank you for placing your order with us for 1200 cream
filled crumpets resembling the likeness of Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones. You can be rest assured that the local villagers here will not go hungry for the next ten years, praise to your credit card and generous donation." SYMPHONY - if you didn't recieve this message or something like it, you're probably safe. I have orered many things online and haven't been 'stung' . I also keep a very close eye on all my transactions.

I shop online a lot

I have never had a problem with it. Just make sure that you see the VeriSign Secured Seal when visiting a site. Make sure to print or save electronically any records related to your online transactions. This will help you keep track of shipping dates, shipping and handling fees, and other details of your transactions. Shopping online also allows to to avoid traffic and busy stores.

You're ordering from a shop that really exists so it should be ok. When you were filling up the online form, you may have seen the Secured Transaction logo. Your personal info would have been encrypted/protected.
Nothing to worry.

I used to live in a city and grocery shopped online all the time and loved it. I wish I could still do it. Some companies charge fees but not all. Some don't charge fees but may charge slightly more for groceries. it is swings and roundabouts

butterfly gal flying by

Hey Symphony - affirm it will be ok and it will. I've experienced this sort of panic before and all I can say if the goods are a pair of shoes don't fret! No seriously if you have a gut instinct go with it. Mostly the internet is ok if it says it is a secure site. I've never experienced anything but then I've only got 2.22 pence in my bank account LOL.

SYMPHONY::::

I owned one of the first computers ever built and have been shopping on line and from catalogs for years. I've never had any bad experiences with buying online. Normally if you aren't happy with a purchase, the site will gladly accept returns.

I've also never had a bad experience with giving out my credit card information. All sites that take credit cards nowadays have SSL which protects your info from hackers. That's not to say it can't happen but even if it does, you're usually only responsible for the first $50, the same as if you lost the card and someone found it and used it.

All my credit card info, banking info, etc is out there in Cyberspace. Because I travel, it's about the only way I can pay my mortgage, car pymt, ins, utility bills, check bank balances, etc. when in a different city. Let's face it! It 's the wave of the future.

Thanks lovelyladymonk
that makes me feel a little better...because yes, I know the shop well, I do shop there but I have never done it over line.....although it did come up "secure" so I am hoping it is safe, I think it is....but I still worry.......

posted by _Symphony_ on May 11, 2005 at 12:52 PM | link to this | reply

We hear about the unusual... the disasters... not the things that work.
This will probably work just fine for you.  Keep in mind, the shops are invested in your satisfaction bringing you back again, so they have an interest in guarding your privacy, too.

Symphony...

Most places that offer online ordering services have secure connections that will not allow your personal information to be displayed to anyone other than the company itself.  Have you done business with this shop other than ordering online?  If so, perhaps you could ring them this afternoon to ask them about this?

It shouldn't be a worry, but if you're concerned this might be the best thing to do.  If you find you don't trust them, you can always cancel your order and request a refund so that you can order from another shop.

I hope this helps...
