MHW, pardon me for commenting/responding to
others in your post. But, fwmystic, just to be clear, I never said men keep women down. I used that example of reality as a comparison only. I know this post had nothing to do with men vs. women. I was just pointing out that even though I know there are ongoing unfairities (is that a word?) and romantic hurts between men and women in the world, I don't go around hating men in general for it or for my personal experiences. Not all men are the same just like not all women are either.That's also why I brought up the German example. K, and to Glennb, same comment as I wrote to fwmystic. It's just that the more any race or religion continues to hate others, the more segregation will be abundant! I feel that if one person hates another, it should be due to something THAT particular person did, not cause they're black, white, Jewish, Catholic, Mexican, whatever. Why does it seem you are trying to start a civil war?

You're right. I did take your writing seriously. I thought if you wrote you wanted to be white, that you really wanted to be white. My bad.
But if I made that mistake, I wonder how many of the folks patting you on the back realize there's no business like show business. I'm still a big fan and agree with a lot of what you say. I guess I'm a little slow on the uptake.

As much as I like you, I don't think men in general have kept women down. The same men that keep blacks, jews, spics, greasers, wops, kikes, polacks, liberals, fags, in subservient positions try to keep certain bitches and hos in their place. And some women, you must agree, like being considered the weaker sex.
I agree with alot of what MHW says, but if pains me to see him ravage his race and dream he had been born a different color. I see the same phenomena in Mexicans.

You are a very confused person from your writings! It is not the desire to conquer men that offends me! It is the same thing that you complain about! Limiting and restricting access based on a profile. And "Brown Humanity" has a bigger load! Past criminally legislated injustice (Slavery, Jim Crow, Lynching, ...)! If we do not stop the progression to succeeding generations. What is to say we are not next again?

Dear Uncle Tom,
I gotta say, as much as I like fwmystic, I'm disappointed in his comment here. Glennb is a bigot, plain and simple. His views are prejudiced and dogmatic. It is a proven fact and proven by stats that women have been held back and kept at bay (not to mention lower salaries vs. men with the same qualifications) by the business world. It has always been and shall remain so for a long time to come a “man’s world.“ Do I run around complaining? K, yeah, in my own mind, yes, but I don’t hate ALL MEN IN GENERAL because of it. I’ve been screwed over by men in my personal past, but do I loathe all men because they’re men? Hell no. Do I run around spouting off at Germans because their “people” were involved in the Holocaust? Of course not. This is obviously a perfect example of bigotry on Glenn’s part and I don’t like one bit of it from him or anyone. Great post, as usual. And yeah, as I'm sure you know, I “get” you here.

That's an interesting
slant on this subject. Thank you for your honesty in appraising yourself and the society in general. I liked the paragraph where you are brutally honest about your insecurities. I suffer the same and am delighted that you can express them in open debate. However, one thing I must comment on: you chide yourself too much for being "white" on the inside. There is no "white" as far as I'm concerned, there is only one culture: American. You either blend in with the mainstream or suffer when you can't deal with the people, speak the language, or understand the customs. You obviously can do all three and should be applauded for doing so, not criticized.

And so far as the answer to your question, what do I actually write? Well, I dabble in a lot of things, including op-ed articles, non-fiction books about socio-economic problems, novels, short stories and poetry.
My preference is fiction, writing novels.

There's a big difference in refusing to fight the good fight, and recognizing that the person badgering you will never attempt to see it your way. It won't matter what you say to a person whose mind is closed. In the end, it becomes verbal volleyball with neither side scoring a point. For serious debate (a good thing) to happen, one side has to be listening when the other speaks. When it's not happening, one side needs to call it a day. The energy should go into kicking around ideas/concepts with those who are willing to at least open the door to the idea. We all benefit from that.
In my ex's family, the self-appointed patriarch of the group gives new meanting to: "If you understood what I was saying, you'd have to agree with me." That's about the most insulting thing you can say to a person. It implies the person is too stupid to understand his or her own life and background.
I meet people with the idea that we all come from different backgrounds with a lot of baggage trailing. I don't judge someone immediatly from the words that come out. I don't have to agree with the person to be interested in the whole of their arguments. And, I give the opposite point of view even when I don't believe it myself just for the sake of another opinion. You stop floating those options when it's obvious someone is going to go on the warpath *and* isn't going to listen to anything you've said anyway. Better to take another path.
From what I'm getting, that's where you're at, MHW. It's exciting and scary trying to figure out that next move. You certainly have the strength and skills to make a difference in a cause close to your heart. That's where the effort should go---not in a slap fest with someone who isn't on the same page as you are.

btw, I keep meaning to ask: What exactly doesn't the hardest working man in the writing business actually write. Are you a fiction man or a newspaper man?

So you've learned something......cool, but to say you are going to back down, be no more, let some one leave foot prints on your back..............I'm not up to watching this. Get back up and stand tall because you are who you are, you don't have to fight, you can just let stuff roll off your back. But I'm no one to speak of such things I am a cripple in this life of mine and am always trying to save the injured folk of our society.
