My experience was...
the exact opposite of yours. Whenever I dreamed of my father the year after his death, I felt all the bad stuff come up, and I was relieved to remember that he was gone and could no longer treat me poorly.

Take comfort, I think he is trying to tell you
he is OK where he is and is watching over you. I've had dreams about my dad and know whereever he is he is happy and with people he loves all watching over us.
