good point
however, there are lots of reasons why someone may choose to read shorter posts (attention span, time, ability to read online etc). I agree though that there are many with something to say and worthwhile reading but as in the real world, many also get overlooked.
Comments, no matter how brief are better than none at all. Although I do agree with you that many comments are worthy f blog-like status for the amount of time and effort put into gathering those thoughts.

My take
I read comments as well. They are often just as entertaining as the blog itself. The great job/I liked it comments are great because we writers need the support and feedback. I will always appreciate those brief comments but the ones where we get a full response from the reader and they give back to us their insights just as we gave them ours are really appreciated as well.
