In the real world.....

There isn't any money in the system......you see, congress has been spending it and leaving  "markers"...........

I'm not counting on anything from the system........

a lot of people seem to agree with you , Arch
however
I've mentioned it -- the 29 crash and resultant chaos underscored the need for a gov run system outside of the usual retirement savings, etc. banks closed, savings were gone, stocks plummeted -- people relying on those things had nothing.
whereas SSB can still be there.

Well, Sir . . . .
I'm planning on seeing the year 2100, and I was born in 1949. However, I would be thrilled to see the Social Security System phased out over, say, a ten year period (that would phase it out about the time I was eligible!). Preparing for retirement is an individual's responsibilty, not the government's.
