I asked this very question when I was about 6. I was told that she gives them to the sand-man who then grinds them into sand to help people fall asleep. It shut me up at the time but I eventually started getting grossed out every time I had crumblies in the corners of my eyes in the morning...I couldn't wash my eyes out fast enough not knowing what nasty kids teeth they were made from.

Apparently, in Botswana, the Gerber Baby Food company had a hell of a moment -- seems like most of the population can't read, so they identify what jars and cans contain by the pictures on the labels...
As to the tooth fairy, well, the best take I recall is the the South Park episode about that...

I don't think the smell of burning teeth is any worse than the smell of Acapulco Gold. I think they grind that stuff with old tires as filler.

A friend of my "husband" used to talk about human cheese. His logic was that if we make cheese from goat or cow milk, why not from human milk?
