I didn't mind the movie...
I kind of liked the quirkyness of it all - similar but different to the TV series (which we have on DVD). It's not quite my cup of teas - especially out in space where it doesn't taste like it either, but as you said, it's difficult to squeeze a galaxy of information into a movie!
