Hollee, yes I have a few wannabe personalities and some good people who could go all the way. There is always that difficulty in attracting bright people who have integrity to small-time newspapers. I agree it is a noble cause. I am embarrassed to say that it is one I no longer want to do

Wetzel, I have to agree with you. I don't subscribe to the belief that it will just turn up because we want it

Natural Tendencies
I honestly believe that if someone wants something bad enough they can't be stopped. Have a musician son that I "wanted" to be a lawyer, doctor or I.Chief. He started playing instruments in the middle of the night at age 7 and there was no stopping him. He's a musician today, earning a fair living. Peggy

MayB, I took a 4-week Comp Class 2 years ago and was greatly influenced by the Instructor who taught it.

Upon reading what u had wrote, i feel u have made an interesting point MayB, for there are those who make there way into the job industry by the "how to's" and then there are those, who from natural intuition, know naturally how to bring on the essence of catching the eye. I am going to start journalism as a freshman in college, in the fall. I only hope to bring out the beauty of whats already inside. By that i mean, when something is read, i hope to connect with what is already INSIDE the reader. Sometimes, we dont know that something is inside, lest we read it, thus revealing our inner qualities, resulting, in a nice nod.

The Devil made it so UGLY, that's who...
MayB, if you're like me, you care so much it hurts, and find the writing a healing balm... you know they won't all have bylines. That's just the way it is. Get rest and get well.

It will be so cool when you do recognise that byline - you will be so proud to have helped them get to that point!

MayB - when I was the editor of the two newspapers, it was so

disheartening when I was trying to hire a new reporter to find that the college grads who studied journalism were not planning to stay with newspapers, but rather move on to TV so they could become a "personality." Granted, being a newspaper reporter generally does not pay well--but I always felt it was such a noble profession--to report the news factually and without bias.

Obviously I was a bit idealistic.

you never know MayB...

MerryAnne, I'll never know but I don't imagine that I'll have had that much influence in a few short weeks. When I look back on who inspired me it was not the obvious people.

Well MayB,
I hope when you see those bylines you have some pride that you helped get them there!
