but when we use the concept of love as a means to an end, which is to prove that we are 'right', then love has gone. mostly, i was referring to when we get into a power struggle with someone and forget why we are making the statements we are making.

Love is when our assertions aren't. Hmmm. I'm going to need to think on that one for a bit. At first blush, it seems as though one can assert love, as in making a positive statement about one's belief in love. That isn't to say that we are forcing love on another, but taking a stance about the importance of love. Yup, still need to think about it a bit.
