we were at the dawn service too -
in Darwin though and our crowd does not compare in size (we had 2,500) but the feelings and sentiments were all there.

Nothing at all wrong with being moved in such a way...Your description of the events moved me. I also find the preservation of such documents extremely moving. My uncle served during World War two. He fell in love with a German woman and they planned to be married. When he was forced to leave her behind to return to America, he made plans to return to Germany and bring her back with him.
They never saw one another again...Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
Hope you survived the malls okay...
