Seems to me, Jung is more literal...

maybe an odd thing to say about Jung...   I would interpret his idea of the collective consciousness as the particular part of the astral that contains all human thought-forms.

An individual human has his/her own such collection, too--- but I call that the Half-astral...

Yeah, Jung is similar but not quite there. This concept I've felt very comfortable with for many years. Probably comes from spending some time several years ago with a channeled entity as well as reading the Seth books. And I have read a bit on the Akashic record too. I had forgotten about that. Thanks for reminding me.

That is tres cool. How come they want to help us?
I mean, here we flounder about not knowing which way is up half the time. It's nice the spirits want to help, but why? Because we're all part of the whole? They help us from the other side? I'm still trying to get my mind around it all even though I totally accept and believe, you know?

Sannhet, I thought you were going to bring up Jung...!

This is, to my mind, a much more interesting concept!  It goes by other names, like The Akashic Record and The Book of God's Remembrance...   I've looked at it as a time-and-space bounded packaging of the principle of all of Time--and all that happens in it--being one whole thing rather than a long sequence of one instant at a ...well, time...  and that, at a certain level of awareness, we can perceive it and access it.

Your idea also seems to tie in with the 'group consciousness' that appears to be the basic source of much channeling:  Some channeled entities explain that they are actually a group of minds that, for human convenience, identify themselves by an individual name.  I knew someone who channeled such a group consciousness  called The Counselors; Emanuelle (not the one in the movies...) is also such a group.  They make a point that individuality at that level exists, but for the purposes of their work, individual identity is irrelevant. Seth may also be such a group entity...  These last two are fairly well-known, having been presented publically in popular books.

That's very interesting, Ciel. I'm going to ask questions while I read!

In my mind, the collective consciousness is a part of the "mind" of "God". It's the eternal record of all knowledge, carved delicately onto the ether. It's timely and timeless, and available to us all any time, if we know how to access it. If we don't, then it may come to us randomly, as inspiration or idle thought. For me, this is one explanation for the concept of a child prodigy. The child has the ability to access the information necessary to do what he or she does so well at such a young age.

While no prodigy, I learned to play the guitar at the age of 12, and was playing it so well and understood music so well that I was teaching guitar in a class for older students at school by the age of 14. Mind you, I didn't practice after a few months of instruction. I just kind of knew how to play whatever I needed to play. I was not gifted and to this day I do not know how I knew what I knew, beyond somehow accessing that collective consciousness.

Sannhet, the thing is that we know so little about how our own minds work...  Inspiration does, I agree, sometimes come from out beyond our 'self' limits.  But we really have not got a good handle on where those limits are.  Well, I don't,  anyway...

The Collective consciousness...  What do you believe that is?

I think thoughts come from the collective consciousness as well. I firmly believe that when I am in a creative state, it is not I creates the words I write or pictures I paint. It is something outside of me. And I think that many of our thoughts are merely us becoming aware of "outside" thoughts that are "bubbling" up constantly from said collective consciousness into our consciousness.

Ciel,
I always knew there were things lurking in the basement of my consciousness, sort of a Jack Nicholson "Shining" moment.  I'd better take a flashlight when I go down there.

that's great, ciel
i've been studying A Course in Miracles for two years now. it supposedly was channeled from Jesus through a psychologist. it is very helpful in my path of study, and helps me love unconditionally. i've learned to use my 'still small voice' in a lot of ways now. mostly what i receive are images, symbols to quick questions about things. that's a great post and i thank you for answering my question. have a great day.
