I had to laugh, your post sounded like just what my boys would say! I don't particularly enjoy shopping anywhere - malls or other - but its just one of those necessities one has to do.

Birthday shopping for your love as well? I know what you mean about the life force ebbing there, it's as though there's a fog there, emanated by whatever Hong Kong novelties just delivered off the truck to satiate the moment's whim before they're dumped, soiled, by disinterested mothers into thrift stores. The buying of a gift seems mystical, a search for some effervescent grail. Good luck on your quest.
