When someone is a writer they exist in there own world. The others sometimes don't understand and want you to rejoin them. Come a sit and talk. They don't understand and don't be mad. They don't understand a creative energy release. Its there short comings. You'll have to cope and be nice.

symphony,
You can just paste the preview at your storefront.I just visited again. The new arrangement looks so much better.
Its the same problem when you email the file in wps format as receivers can't even open the file as we don't have that format installed in our O.S. Maybe you can ask the support forum experts. ;-)

symphony,
Maybe you can try copy & pasting the preview into the REVIEW section.(at that same webpage) This way, people don't need to download the file to read it.

symphony,
Do you have Microsoft Word? Copy the file, paste into a new MS Word file, save it and then upload again this new version as your preview. Computers without Word Perfect installation cannot cope, hence it looks different. Good luck.

Some people just don't understand. Until I startd getting checks in the mail my folks thought I was just wasting my time with my scribbling. Avoid the topic if you can.

Symphony,
Mothers can say the harshest things. Writing isn't a choice with me, or probably most of us here, it's like breathing, it has to be done. Congratulations on finishing your book.

Think of All the negative thoughts that well known authors have probably..
heard within their lifetimes. "Get a real job!" or "It's a silly notion you have. Who said you could write " or "Now that writing's out of your system, do you think you live in the real world now?" and that was just the family and freinds. It does tend to hurt more though. Attempt to be patient with your Mum, sometimes it takes awhile for parents to understand your motives. Don't let it spoil your life and all that is good.

Ouch.
Don't get too discouraged by your mom. Some people just don't understand some things..I don't comprehend modern art - you know it's a picture of a red circle or a bunch of splotches...sorry- I just don't get it and just never will appreciate it I suppose.....but that doesn't mean I like the artist any less. It is just my own shortcoming. So your mom doesn't get that part of you. Don't take it personally when it is her problem in comprehending your work.

My family doesn't understand either. Whether writing is you job or your hobby, it's part of who you are...hang in there.
A thought on the website for your book...why would I want to know about your brother? You forgot to mention what it is about your brother that would make him interesting to read about.

Max, your mom reminds me of what my dad says sometimes... he tells me to forget about writing and to look for a real job when i tell him i want to publish one of my books... it hurts alot, but it makes me more determined to work harder at my writing...
If writing makes you happy then keep writing and to hell with anyone who doesnt care... just coz your book isnt in the shops doesnt make it any less better....
You did something that isnt easy at all to do... especially emotionally... a beautiful book about your brother.... you put so much work into this... be proud.... many people dont understand...
{{{HUGS}}} Im so proud of you!! The book looks awesome!

Symphony...
Your mum's words to you break my heart in half. Some of my family feels the same way about my writing...but for the exact opposite reason...I'm not yet published at all, though I've been doing this for several years now.
Writing is a time taking progress. You can't just go about it willy nilly...I've read such utter crap from people who try to do this. Your writing is INCREDIBLE!!!! Never mind about your grammer, Love...If you need help improving on it, there are books you can buy to aid you. Take your time.
The most important thing you can do for yourself is to do whatever it is that brings YOU happiness and makes you feel fulfilled...Regardless of the fact that others seem to think you're wasting your time with a "dead-end hobby."
Even if it just a hobby, it's your decision to continue with it...Not your mum's or anyone else's...Please don't ever give that up for anyone.
Is there any way we could meet for a chat? I'm so dying to talk more with you about this...Of course, don't feel obligated and take your time. Please e-mail me if you need to talk about anything.
God bless.

Sometimes I think my parents are sort the same way. My mom is always pushing me to get "real" jobs, and never really seems to understand the joy I get out of writing or filmmaking. It's funny because so many people read books and watch movies, but the moment you tell someone you're a writer or a filmmaker - unless you're famous - they look down on you because you don't have a "real" job.
