mighty doesn't see
much past the 1950's, maybe 30's, if you believe the movies -- particularly the "Our Gang" series.

such a view of women comes from the aristocratic class here in the U.S., where the CEO's provide and the woman does the socialite thing -- girls become debuttantes and women oversee the household -- servants and all that and aren't part of the workaday world

in the 50's, when the ordinary male worker was able to provide for his household (different from today when it takes two people working at three or more jobs -- a statement of how workers are treated worse today), the ideal was the "stay at home mom". This has had serious consequences when the man died and the woman didn't know how to pay bills or many other things.

Before that -- women worked as hard as the men -- on farms -- in sweatshops -- hey you conservatives, remember sweatshops???!!! (they've been reinstituted in SE Asia) -- and that was the way it was.

You can look back over the centuries and millenia and find that women working was the rule rather than the exception.

For you bibilical literalists, read Proverbs 31 -- shows a woman on an equal par with the man.

And there are plenty of strong female leaders throghout history as positive examples.

religious conservatives are wrong again.
