MayB
Do you have any 'alternatives' in mind, MayB?

Metta, I agree that only reading "top" bloggers seriously narrows one's reading. It is best to sample everything across the board

instead of reading who is most popular, I try to read the writings of the most recently posted... new people coming onto Blogit may have a powerful voice and I might miss them all together if I just read the most popular people...

DarrkeThoughts, you are right about that

I don't see myself as promoting my fiction, yet it's ended up at Number 2... except when I deleted all the posts as I did today. Who cares? If it gets popular again, then I will know that I can climb that tree again. I don't consider myself as any sort of a schmoozer, but I do try to return comments if I like the other writers who come bopping along onto my posts.

I've seen some really good writers who seem to go unnoticed.  If there is a lesson in Blogit it is that writing skills alone are not what makes a successful author.  There's all that promotion stuff to deal with too.  I think what Blogit offers is the chance to promote yourself - much more than practice putting words together.

Tapsel_T and Oceandancer, thanks for visiting. I am not aspiring to be at the top rather I occasionally wonder why our writing section is not as strong as it should be. That my dashed off blogs do so well in the category tells me that things should be better. Take care my friends

MayB - Part of the problem is just that if a blogger doesn't write daily (or more) to keep their name in the view of readers, they become forgotten just because there are so many out there to read.   I have a tendency to read whatever is showing at the time that I come on to blog.   Sometimes I even forget to look up those that I really enjoy the most.   I can't even remember how long it has been since I commented on your posts and yet I very much like reading you.

B, what does it matter?

It takes time and energy to be at the top of the list. Lots of smoozing and cruising. If you want to get up to the top again, just think of how much effort is involved. Then yah gotta decide if you have the time and energy to spare.
