I never could get into Steinbeck, but one of my daughters loves everything he wrote.
A great visual on the Dust Bowl is in the movie, Bound for Glory, which is the story of Woodie Guthrie. I don't think I ever really understood what it was like until I saw it done on the screen. Also, as I recall, James Michener's Centennial had a Dust Bowl chapter that was very gripping.

I got my history lesson for the day which was quick and to the point. The dust bowl was interesting. I have a webster dictionary on my desk almost all the time. Enjoyed Lincoln too.
