Painter -
I am not very comfortable with the institutions of Church. Never have been. But I go because I am constantly finding nuggets of truth either from the sermon (which I admit is difficult) or in discussions with others, most of whom are much more conservative than I. But those nuggests keep brining me back.

I have a severe soft spot for any place preaching love for God... actually I have such a soft spot for any individual actively loving God (or trying their best to do so)... the church of the heart... smile

Empty handed painter, the answer or the new religion you are seeking may be found within your own nickname -- for you see true spirituality comes when you and I turn over the canvas of our lives to the Master Artist, who desires to be the Divine Painter of our souls.

Though raised and studied Bible as a Lutheran (stupid - look what they did to the Jews... I didn't know any better as an 18-year-old)... when I was 24 I became involved in the Vineyard movement out of Anaheim. There are some 600 churches worldwide, so it actually has become a "charasmatic" mainline denomination. The founder (d.) was a man named John Wimber who's been likened to a modern day John Wesley. Vineyard Music has sold millions of contemporary praise and worship "records" worldwide - in fact, if your denomination has contemporary services - as most of them do, then you're probably singing their songs right now... there are no Vineyards in my town, so I have thought of returning to the Lutherans or Episcopals. I disagree with them on homosexuality, but they are a great "human justice" and "rights and needs of the poor" movement. Vineyard feeds people, and they are predominantly a youth movement.
