Mary x, a big component of education these days is getting through. For many years I thought it was about acquiring knowledge and so I failed exams. Then I realized that I needed to change my strategy just to get through and that knowledge may or may not follow. Besides seeking knowledge is a lifelong pursuit rather than a short-term goal

CarolynMoe thanks for that. I have three classes back to back on one day and by the end the combination of all those students drawing advice from me leaves me with nothing to give.

Drag-o-la, MayB... my forte is short shorts... and sometimes they're funny... some bloggers have liked Hollywood Vittles, and the one on the second page about my poodle is my personal fav - if you're looking for "off-the-wall."  Because of your situation, I especially don't want to seek your comments. I've been getting my share - as I try to return "reads and comments" in kind. I've added to my profile should you care to dissect a non-students' bio.

P.S. - In reference to your (facitious?) title, I don't want you to help me.  My religion says to carry one anothers' burdens.  You're in my prayers, and I hope through my writing, you can at least get a chuckle or maybe a big, fat laugh.

MayB,
How sad, that it comes down to marks (or grades) and that students are so cynical as to say that.

Ungrateful little ingrates....
is the phrase my Mom uses when she has had it with her students. I always laugh - but I can relate.

DarrkeThoughts, there are a few who want to learn but many do the topic because it was the lesser of two evils when they chose their courses.
Their are some who want to suck every bit of info out of me that that they can. I am always completely drained at the end of class. On the other hand I hold back from giving them everything because I want to get them to think and use their initiative. Not only that if I am not careful I will end up like I was this week - giving all my time and energy to that which will rapidly send me broke.
Unfortunately you do get teachers like that and unfortunately one of the main focuses in universities these days is bums on seats and fees and no.s of graduates and not education

How often do you run into students who make it worth the effort?  You know, I had a teacher that took points off my assignements for trying to hard?  I wanted to really learn something in the class and she decided my project was "too complicated" for her to understand.  For half the class I said I didn't care about the grade, I just wanted to learn something. But as I saw my chances of getting an A slipping away I changed my mind and started over with a cute little project she would like better.  (The class was on Decision Support Systems and she turned it into how to create a basic spreadsheet.  She objected to formulas that had "If-Then" statements in them.  Not overly complex if you ask me...)
