CarolynMoe, you're welcome. I am not meant to be teaching English but about a style of writing. I feel swamped by having to go through the same stuff over and over. I love to read and I noticed that the fine publications I subscribe to are sitting aside unread while I wade. It has reinforced in my mind how I want to spend my time.

Thanks MayB, what a nice compliment... I think I would get frustrated if what you describe is any indication of teaching English.

DarrkeThoughts, that's good. I had a similar battle with my eldest child but now I can't tell him anything

Good writing counts, because good living is necessary for life's happiness and good writing is usually a product of good living!

That's the argument I used to get my 5 year old to start spelling words the way I do instead of any old way they sounded.  It was cute the first couple times, but then I had to explain how hard it was to understand what he was writing...seemed to work...

I tell them MerryAnne that writing and reading well EVERY DAY is the only way

Carolyn, you write so well and you could teach but at the cost of your writing could be too high a price

... hmmm, maybe I'll forget teaching and stay home and write.

In the writing course i'm taking
we had a lot of drop outs. My instructor laughed - she said it happens every term - they are shocked to discover that they actually have to work!

It makes me wonder what they expect when they sign up

It's amazing that anyone communicating with words would even ask that question.
