- Go to THE TOYS OF MY YOUTH
let's see
there's a photo of me when i was about three - got all my christmas toys
a stick pony
two six guns in my hands
a coca cola truck (still have that)
and gobs and oodles of other things
I 've got to look -- but i don't think the drum was there.
that drum -- my cousin jackie and i were left alone in the 2nd story flat on delmar -- i sat on the drum -- tried to get up and she kept pushing me back down -- finally the drum broke -- it was one of those big drums -- when our parents got in and saw the drum, I told them my story and she told them that i kept on trying sit on it and she kept on trying to pull me off of it.
wonder where jackie is now?
just about always got a pair of six shooters -- then got a model airplane set -- bombers -- b-29, b-47, b- 52 -- put them together.
got an erector set -- built bunches of bridges and things -- didn't have the electric motor -- just a crank, so the bridges went up and down by muscle power
got lincoln logs -- built log cabins galore.
modeling clay -- built dinosaurs and other things
Roy Rogers' Central City -- Roy and Dale fighting the bad guys.
Mattel's gas station/parking garage -- whooped them cars around.
have the toy John Deere tractor my uncle (who was a John Deere salesman) gave me.
and tinker toys -- built and built and built.
that's what kids ought to be taught to do -- build.
