we have such a "death" obsession
that we want to hold on to someone's life
there are books about that
people see a corpse in a casket and cannot accept that that is a dead person.
Terri's parents had the same problem -- they couldn't see the mass of protoplasm as just that --
I've seen people almost try to pry a corpse from the casket to seemingly "try to bring it back to life". It's a sad thing.
Kooka's great-grandmother is an example of why. When she died, his grandmother, who had cared for her for so long, just accepted; however, his great-uncle, who had lived in California for years, was pretty broken up about it. It's like some of my mother's family -- there were things left undone -- only thing, it was too late to correct this -- they just wanted that loved one back so they could correct the lack of things done.
they couldn't get forgiveness from the loved one for "things done and left undone".
I would venture to say that this might be affecting Terri's parents. It looks like her widower has made peace with Terri and his god. It could be that they haven't.

Wow, I must be clairvoyant
Did I or did I not say in this post that there would be a Christians who would come along and instead of trying to present facts to prove me wrong, would instead attempt to discredit me? And even after this comment I would bet there will still be more.
Actually chrysalis I will admit that I do not know. My belief that she has been truly dead for fifteen years comes from the simple fact that I care so much for life and the true aspects of life that are important, that I can not picture the horror that he poor woman would have gone through if she had not truly died fifteen years. I guess I just care to much to think that a person might have been forced to suffer in such a cruel, inhumane and straight out evil fashion for so long. I admit it is a truth I have created without 100% facts. But for me the other possible option ends up showing humanity to be the most evil and cruelest it has ever been. To think that we might have forced an innocent person to live in such a condition for fifteen years and she might have actually had any sense at all of awareness... No, we can not be that cruel and evil. Her parents could not have been that cruel and evil. I will hold ot eh idea that mankind is not truly as evil as you seem to wish to paint mankind to be. We can be delusional and believe certain things at times because we are unable to let go or admit mistakes, but to willing keep some one trapped in such a torture is beyond any level of evil I can imagine or accept.

fear of death
the idea of death underpins all religious doctrine. blind faith requires that the fear of death exists as a premise. it is hard for a lot of people to accept that their belief may not be truth; for this they are willing to fight you to the death. to me it seems pointless to argue.
