Good for Him ! I agree wholeheartedly with this young man. I am a retired

serviceman that spent 22 years in the US  Army. I hear even  to this day, that I am lucky that I receive a retirement check at such an early age. These come from the same people that draw between $45,000-$75,000 annually for working in whatever they do. I wish that they would understand the sacrifice that comes with being in the military.

I missed my child's first steps. I missed birthdays. I worried if they were safe and getting by OK without me. I was to busy worrying about them, to be concerned about my safety.

My comrades and I shared stories, photos, laughter and tears, but at the same time continued the mission .We came to know the families of our brothers and sisters and shared in both grief  and happiness. Whatever we were assigned to accomplish we did so, knowing that someone, somewhere was objecting to our presence, wherever we were.

If someone were to ask me "Don't you think our soldiers make enough money in the military ? " I would have to reply with a hearty " HELL NO !"

I challenge any person, actor/ actress or a real person  to put down their script,  step out of their  make believe world ,and don the  uniform and lifestyle of any military service member. Spend some time placed in harm's way making decisions  affecting one person's life that you have come to know, not to mention a squad,  platoon, company , battalion, and etc. Afterwords, when you see the casualty reports, equipment losses, situation reports, and you are wondering if  should you have used different tactics,  praying that the "adequately" paid soldiers can get over the latest horrors they just faced and the loss of their comrades, then ask:

"Are our soldiers paid enough ?"

Do they deserve retirement pay ?

I am writing this while I am here in Baltimore watching my daughters children, my grandchildren. I am doing this because my daughter is presently assigned overseas. I thank God that she is in the far east, instead of Afghanistan or Iraq. It doesn't matter where she's assigned for when she put on that  uniform, she  became a target of every terrorist, activist, and ignorant fool out there.

I didn't mean to be so long winded, but when someone touches a raw spot, I sound off.

I apologize.

I agree.  When my husband used his GI bill money, he had to drop out one semester, and you'd better believe they wanted their money back.  Money he paid for!!!  They don't just give it to you out of the goodness in their hearts.  It's so disgusting!!  I hate it all!

lady
it is sad that these men and women make so little.  Many of these young men and women ( babies really as many are right out of high school) are in our armed services for educational purposes.  What an education they get huh??
Thanks for reading

When we were in the military I found it hilarious how many girls wanted to score themselves a military man based on the misconception of their pay.  My husband made $1200 a month.  It's so gross.
