In the olden times, when I was in 6th or 7th grade, I read a book from the
library just about every night.  The school library was meant for up to 7th graders.  I usually picked some little fiction thing that kids read.  I chose things  by the cover.  One afternoon I chose something pastel and pretty, and took it home and read it in a couple of days..  It was Lord of the Flies.  Bit of shocking that was, the first I'd ever read that did not have a nicely resolved, happy ending.  I learned my lesson, stayed away from pastels...  The next bookcover was rich greens and blues.  It was The Old Man and the Sea.

I'm ashamed to
admit that I haven't read any Hemmingway. All that I know of his work is hear say.   Thanks for giving this insight into his work.

I have read his Old Man And The Sea about four times and each time I feel more a part of him as he sits in that boat. Great post about Spain and the year I was born.Happy 24 my friend.
