I have schizophrenia also, if it makes you feel any better

We'll I know what you are going through.  I thought Jay Leno was talking about me on the T.V. and that I had a special relationship with Conan O'Brien.  I don't know why I picked late night comedy shows to be apart of my delusions, maybe because through it all I had a sense of humor.  I also had suicide attempts and the like.  I got paranoid and etc.  I had a son that I gave up for adoption.   Well thank you for your courage to speak out and God Bless.

love,

Jessica

I feel you, hallucinations are much to handle
I also deal, but what the hell is reality anyway?

Well it beats the other odd sensations like burning feelings or an itchy toe and such

Factor

I would say that yes, the phantom smells you experience are caused by MS. I wasn't able to find anything definitive online, other than that MS can cause “Impaired sense of taste and smell”. I admit I didn’t look for too too long, but I’d feel pretty safe in saying that’s what causes it. Isn’t it a weird sensation?

If it's any consolation, I smell things that aren't there too...usually smoke, elecrical burning smell, cigarette smoke, etc. Sometimes a nice smell though. Not sure why...must be some brain thing connected to MS.

Oh!
And how often? Usually once or twice a week.

Rachel
Olfactory hallucinations are very uncommon, so I guess I just got lucky =P. I generally smell some rotten, like garbage or on that oh so wonderful occasion dog crap. However it's not always something so gross, one day I smelled syrup in my office for the entire day. I had three people come in to make sure it really was just me. While syrup isn't a gross smell or anything, it can certainly drive you mad when you smell it for 8 hours.

Interesting...
What sort of things do you smell that aren't really there?  Just curious, as I've never read or heard examples of what people may smell.  How often does that happen?
