I myself have a piece of crap for a computer. I tried commenting on this blog last night but after 3 failed attempts cause I keep falling off line, I gave up. I have to type real fast before I fall which also leads to spelling mistakes as my fingers fly by the keys and I.....

Learning all about it is a good way to
keep your pc in line. Next time it happens, you have no excuse since you have all those CD's for backup.

Symph,
I"m sorry - I know it sucks. I went out and got myself a little flash drive so I can at least keep a back up of all my writing projects. Because even though I'm the same person, writing the same stuff - it all cames out different. Ya know?

Symphony, Sorry to hear about the loss of your files. I can honestly and
most definitely say how much that sucks. I had over 4 months of at least 8 hours work on geneology, pictures, Ebooks and irreplaceble work. Did I have a backup ? Nope. Do I have one now ?Yup. Once again sorry for your loss.

X 3. Take care

saving in email is a great idea.....yes I am totally gutted...more about the photos than anything....because photos tell a story...and I cant get them again because I used a digital camera for it.....the ones I can save is the photos of a normal camera because I can scan them again....

Sorry to hear all this sister.
But, besides saving money, you can consider this rewrite an opportunity to edit your work.
You want to publish, but if you are anything like me the blog or the journal is always like an irresistable open road and I never slow down long enough to edit my work.
That was what I originally thought I wanted: to stop using pot or opiates to see if I could muster the focus I need to actually envision and take to completion a project. Sketchy outlines and thousands of pages of journals and mediocre to decent poetry will never get published without the will to self promote.
As I am I sometimes feel that I am babbling mindlessly... or as Moondawg would say "howlin' at the moon!!"
The only upsides for me are that my wife can read this and I am participating in a community that I am very happy with.

Damn Girl!
So sorry to hear about you losing those files. As a smart, savvy woman though, I'm surprised you didn't have back up copies of everything. Some lessons are learned the hard way.
Good luck on the computer school. It's a great idea for all of us.
I recently had my cell phone stolen and wrote a blog about sitting down with your cell phone, pen and paper and writing all those numbers in there down in black and white. Thus far, I haven't done this. Shame on me!
An interesting side-note: When my cell was stolen, I told all my friends to do this too--no one listened and since then, 2 other friends have lost their phones as well.

That's tough, Symmie. Yeah, I had a minor loss of a story once, but it made me be very careful about my writing. I save my work not only on my hard drive, but on a second hard drive as well, and I print out copies of my work as I go along. That way I have a non-digital copy of the work, and the only way that'll get corrupted is if I spill coffee on it or accidentally set fire to it!
