Gail: Well done! It's amazing how many people can get relevant experience from volunteer work, but they discount it from their resumes. Another aspect is "free" work - offering the employer labour for virtually nothing in one's line of endeavour. Not that I believe in giving stuff away, but one can barter labour for some other consideration. It's just a matter of negotiation.
