The bits of fluff and stalling while I think place-holders add spice and
character to language, but sometimes, they substitute for a mind that doesn'thave the tools to communicate, and that is pretty sad. Kids need us to model useful communication, and to help them acquire the skills. It isn't just what grammar teaches, but what mom and dad say, too...

This is a very relevant post. I've noticed that lots of kids fail to express themselves well. In addition to "ummm," they say "You know what I mean?" or "You know what I'm sayin'?"--way too much.
I have two daughters. ... I'm so thankful they're very well spoken. They use very little "fluff" when speaking (to me at least).

Did you know…
That the dictionary evolves with children…but adults don’t have time to read it. I remember my teacher saying, “ain’t…is not a word”. But it is found in the dictionary. “um” means, I am thinking…give me a second to finish analyzing the data. And “you know” means, read my mind…or…you should be as smart as me, and know what I mean…lol
