Quirks
Yikes! That is most disturbing, but not surprising. We really have to keep a careful eye on our business!

This is really scary! I read somewhere that we can turn off our credit so new credit lines can't be added then turn it back on when we want to buy a car or a house. I'm seriously going to find out how to do this.

Spitfire, I know,
It's very disturbing.

word.smith,
Like little ant trails in an ant farm...

That's pretty scary.

There are many web sites like that, though. I mean, one can do a backround check, credit check, personal check on just about anyone. Especially if it's public record. If someone's willing to pay a fee, they can get just about anything. The whole thing goes way beyond "Big Brother," too. Yikes.

Scary, it's a good thing my name is so common,
that when I put it in tons of people come up as well. Needle in a haystack,   but then that leads me to thinking about all the other trails that are all over the place if anyone cares to take a good look

Oh Merry,
I'm going to print that comment and send it to your kids so they can remind you of it when you're 95 in the nursing home and no one will take care of you...lol.

saul,
Yes...but even the most "secure" of all sites is not impossible to crack, esp. when the payoff is worth it.

I'm with you, MerryAnne.

OK I'm scared now.
Of course stealing my identity would be OK if they took my kids with them! ;)

You are absolutely correct, Quirkyalone.
Access to a database like this should be maintained under strict security systems.  We know they exist.  But we sure as hell don't want every sleazy Magnum P.I. wannabe running amok through our stored lives.  It's bad enough that burglary and theft exist in the material world, but to lose your identity and life in a virtual world at the tips of a few opportunistic fingers?  Good post.
