Very true, SacredRaven.
They only seem to be so prevalent because of media overexposure and the constant barrage of documentaries and news stories about such occurrences and the people who perpetrate them.

The world seems to be an ever-increasingly violent place. It saddens me to read things like this, but fortunatly as horrific as they are, they are the exception rather than the rule. Sad and unfortunate I know, but at least nutcases like this man are not as common as they could be.

Namaste.

Sacred Raven.

Again, it goes back to the twin arguments
of overcrowding and information overload.  Societal stresses are on the increase through media, through foodstuff artificiality, through genetics, through a thousand myriad interacting things.  I just hope we don't see a collective psychological breakdown, or its opposite, mass hysteria.  On the good side, we humans are extremely adaptive.  I mean, look how quick we moved from bows and lances and swords to guns and grenades to nuclear warheads and weaponized biological agents.

You make some valid points here
We are definately over populated. I am never quite sure why ther horrific acts have to happen. I still feel that mental illness is on the rise, but what has caused it to get so out of control? Chemicals in our food? Society in general? Hateful actions from strangers or kids growing up as latch keys with no guidance? I don't remember these types of things going on when I was a kid. I'm sure that they did happen, just not as much.

It does seem to be, sassyass_64,

but is it?  Or is it the fact that we have immediate access to so much information, including the bad news, and bad news sells better than good news?  Or could it be, as some scientists suggest, nature's way of thinning the herd, the human response to its overcrowded living space?  Either way, there seems to be no safe place, no refuge, no sanctuary from the violence.

Unless remote Antarctica becomes a viable option.

Unfortunately it is getting worse everyday
Soon there will be no safe haven to turn to and that is a scary thought.

True, Glennb,
I am a little concerned about wasteful expenditures when it can be used for the betterment of our children, our nation, our world.  Beleive me, we are on the same page when it comes to improving the human condition.

Saul relative,
You cannot be concerned about the cost of our legal system? With so much being wasted on the destruction of humanity! We all need to get a perspective!

Yes, DarrkeThoughts,

I remember that case as well.  A small New England town?  Or was it Midwestern?  Anyhow, I recall the case.  I even saw a rundown of it on one of the true crime shows either on A&E or Court TV.  Didn't the perpetrator have a greivance because he wasn't selected for a church position or something?

Anyway, thanks for stopping by.

nowhere!  This reminds me of an article I read, maybe last year, some guy put poison in the coffee at a church meeting killing a few people and making several others mysteriously ill.  Very frightening!
