Tapsel, It sounds like you and I had a similar childhood...

there were six of us in an extended household and many of the things I now make are the cheap things that my mom cooked. You forget how good these sorts of foods really are until you remember how good they were when you were a kid.

Mikes Goddess - The creamed meat brings back childhood memories.   Lots of kids in my family so mom made a lot of creamed tuna on toast and a lot of creamed dried beef on homemade biscuits.   Boy, we really loved that stuff (and I think it was real cheap)    She saved the fried chicken, steaks and porkchops for meals when my dad was home.   lol       Also, the Mexican soup sounds yummy.   I think I will try that, like soon.
