Dear Glenn, I've learned on many occassions that the biggest mouth always wins the job, or the better jobs. It outways skill and goodwill. There's hardly any room for sincere and genuine people, even if they still feel 29! I'm talking as a Belgian of course. Thank you for this article, I like it a lot!

L.E. Grant,
Great input, but all that we experience seems to contradict the notion that we can work longer! I question what is really left. Can we realistically expect the job market to expand to include older workers?

Lot of time people try to use the young one's first, though there is no age
discrimination.........still it's there, right?

And us oldies (over 55) don't even get a look in - usually overqualified, so you have to lie about what you can do - being interviewed by people (when they bother to get things that far) who think that anyone older than them (just about everybody who can do the job) has to be past it. It's as if many of those hiring believe that one has to have a very narrow skill set (qualifications, experience, etc.), preferably one that matches the previous job holder: the closer the match, the better you are for the job.
And re: the other comment about making jobs disappear - good systems don't. But they do involve up-skilling the people whose jobs disappear.

Thanks for the input! We have a problem! I often wonder if we have ourselves to blame. We have allowed our own children to be consumed by the corporate scum of the Earth! I remember when a job was a profession!

Human resources just don't seem to be in high demand these days! And most of the jobs I have applied for recently seem to focus on building systems to eliminate more people. What will they do with all the excess? I love your blogs by the way!
