- Go to SHOULD KIDS PLAY WITH GUNS?
toy guns don't kill people
stupid people kill people
attitudes -- wrong bringing up -- lack of proper environment
i had Roy Rogers six shooters when I was a kid -- had the fastest draw in the trailer court.
played Cowboys and Indians and Davy Crockett.
that didn't make me into a violent person
grew up learning to hunt and shoot a .22 rifle (still have it)
didn't lead me to killing people -- killed a few rabbits and squirrels -- busted a groundhog in the head with a hammer once.
i'll have to relate my BB gun experiences though.
do it in MY HELLUVA LIFE -- it's called a kid without an adult around making stupid mistakes

At first, I wanted to keep the guns away from my kid. But they are everywhere. I worked on a military base and after 9/11 you couldn't get on base but drive by soldiers with loaded guns pointed right at you. And the other kids at the daycare would play with them, the neighbors even "gave" my son one. (Which I was very unhappy about...) But eventually I realized I can't protect him from them, I can only teach him to respect the weapons and what they can do. Even that a toy is a good way to learn...at least we are only "playing" dead that way. And when he gets older and has the real thing, then hopefully he will understand it's not a game anymore.
