Interesting, Thomas.
I would carry a gun, too.  Cats can be fearsome.  Does this make you want to write a cat story?  Hope so.

I live in Northern California where we have these mountain lions. Behind my house in the next valley, I've found 4 dead carcasses of deer. Its always eerie to find one. Makes you start looking in all the bushes when hiking. I carry a gun. They seem to like corning the deer in barb-wire. Dangerous cats.

That is so scary.

Are you going to blog it?  Sounds interesting.  So, the cat just changed its mind or what?  I'd love to hear it all.

When we lived in the mountains east of Albuquerque, we had several cats that stayed outdoors.  For a time, they were always acting hungry, their bowls were empty, and they were meowing around my ankles asking for food.  One night we had a light snow.  In the morning, I saw the very large cat footprints leading to the dishes and back up the hill.  Someone had a taste for domestic cat food!  After that, we fed them inside and encouraged them to stay inside at night.

I have to say it was the scariest
moment of my life. I actually believe that it was after one of the dogs that was with us. But it was looking me in the eye. The scariest thing was how absolutly silent it was - even when it leapt into the bush!

Thanks, MerryAnne and Wiley, for reading.
I think they're beautiful, but notice a lot of stories about encounters with humans in California, etc.  We encroach on their habitat.  I think of all the wild animals, I would most fear the big cats.  From watching our kitty companions, it seems like if you move, they attack.  If you don't move, they attack.  And the concentration once those eyes fix on the prey is tremendous.  Glad you escaped!

Thanks, Quirky and Spitfire, for reading.

I agree SF.  Humans are the biggest enemy of any species (maybe including ourselves).  When I read about the cougar attack stories out west, I watch my cats playing and wonder how you would escape from a cat.  If you move, they attack.  If you don't move, they attack.  Their concentration is superb.

Stay tuned for the other North American cats, then on to the other continents.   Meow.

Great info, here, WitchF,
We humans should be ashamed of ourselves cause it's mostly our fault that many wild animals are becoming extinct. And, if we would STOP building our new homes, shopping malls, etc, in their territory, maybe they wouldn't appear in people's kitchens and attack their children.  Where the hell do people expect them to go??

I agree!
There is nothing like a cat.  And the big ones are special.  Thanks for reading, Ariala and V'ger.

One of my most favourite animals! The puma! I've only seen a stuffed Floridean Panther in the Everglades once, they are indeed almost extinct! See you soon! VOYAGER9940
