FactorFiction,
You are very correct there. What I need to do is not even worry about what goes on in this woman's life. I am having a hard time doing that because I like her. She has to make her own mistakes and find things out on her own. She is almost like a daughter to me though. Hence, I am a bit protective when I don't even have a dog in the fight. She likes me to be interested in her though. It's complicated and I need to leave it alone.

Don't overprotect her then-
She is going to need a healthy dose of "real guy" vs. imagined guy or she will be absolutely crushed one day! That comment is just an itty bitty thing compared to what is possible.

FactorFiction,
I like the name! I would have had to have gone into way too much detail to explain the whole thing. This poor girl should be looking for many men instead of just a few. I have told her that. She is not the belle of the ball though and she doesn't think she will appeal to very many men. So she is trying a few at a time.

I agree Sarooster! Good Call!

Hmm.
I am female and I don't see why she should be heartbroken over a simple remark!? So what is abnormal about his having girlfriends or admitting it if he does? She's old enough to work and it's not like he told her intimate details of a date. Guess I am insensitive, but that is a really tame brush with reality.

Yes, roof, you are correct.
I learned a long time ago to think before I speak. I know some people might thing I am slow-witted or just ignorant, but it has saved a lot of heartache and grief. Plus, I like my officemate and want to see good things happen for her.

Unfortunately most people don't think about what they say before they say it.  I learned to think before everything I say in my household; the slightest slip-up could mean an evenings lecture/shouting/cold shoulder/guilt trip from my mother.  I always cringe when I hear someone just blurt something out without taking a few extra seconds to think about the consequences of what they say.
