belief systems
it's hard to step into another's shoes, which is precisely why we should not judge. I believe there is a much broader purpose to life than whether or not we are right or wrong. God bless you, brother.

"I don't want you or anyone else to come over, get saved, come forward or even think the way I do. How could you? Can you see through my eyes? Can you know how I think?"

Right there says you do have your eyes open and are seeing what is going on. It does not mean you have to change your views at all. You are just aware that other people's views are going to differ because they see the world differently and it sounds like you are not going to try and make them see as you do because you do not wish for them to try and make you see things as they do.

As for the park thing. Yes it would be a great est of faith to not look at the sounds, up until the point where you get ran over by the car that is going through the area it is not suppose to be in. Not questioning faint can be very, very dangerous. You question if there is a motor vehicle around, no matter what you believe because of the sign, and if you see one, you know that you need to adjust your beliefs and realize the sign was not a promise, btu a suggestion and possibly save your life. if you do not see one then you can keep on having faith in the sign. The only true danger here would be have unquestioned faith in the sign to the point of self imposed ignorance.

Cancer can be proven and is well documented in modern times. Belief in God however is PURE opinion. Is has not been well documented (Unless of course you wish to consider myths to be fact and believe that Atlas is holding the world and that Ragnarok is coming) and outside of personal experience (Which people of ever faith claim to experience and is most likely self induced) there is no proof at all of God.

"In the end, three things remain: Faith, Hope, Love" Personal opinion is not one of these three things. YOU BET I'LL SAY IT AGAIN, OPEN YOUR EYES. Your personal opinion as to whether or not Cancer is a disease is irrelevant when you are dying from it.

I'm sorry Kooka, I didn't answer your question
If you heard the motor and did not look because you believed the sign, then it would be a real test of the strength of your belief, nothing more.  What if the sign said "Danger High Voltage" but you had some wet clothes that you need to hang up to dry and the wires looked safe enough to you?

I understand what you're saying, Kooka
And I understand your non-believing point of view as well.  I don't remember a time when I didn't believe there was a god who made everything, but there WAS a time when I was sure that real religion was lost long ago.  I couln't believe in the things that people said, how could I?  No two people ever say the same thing so how could any of them be right?  Now, I have come to a place in my life where I think it is to my advantage to DECIDE to believe what I think, and I don't even care if I'm right.  I am not convinced, persuaded, cajoled, won over or had my mind changed.  It is simply a decision taken.  I don't want you or anyone else to come over, get saved, come forward or even think the way I do.  How could you?  Can you see through my eyes?  Can you know how I think?  Now, if I knew of a good place to eat, would you get mad if I told you about it?  If somebody told me about a good restaurant, I might try it.  If somebody told me I was going to hell if I didn't try it, I would laugh because it would be absurd.  I guess what I really don't understand is why some atheists get so upset about recomendations made with innocent motives.

I never said believe in nothing. Just have respect for everything and be willing to look at all that is around you. If you are out for a walk and are crossing through a park where there are signs that say 'No Motorized Vehicles' and you deiced that because of those signs you need not worry about motorized vehicles. Does that mean that if you hear the sounds of an engine coming ever closer to you that you should believe the signs and figure that there is nothing there? Or should you at least look at see what is making those sounds? If it is nothing, then it as not really waste of time because you still might at least learn what made the noise and possible gain something form that alone If it is a car heading straight towards you, you can now dodge it and see that you can not trust everything you are told, but instead need to be aware and show respect to other possibilities.

people who do not question, who do not subsequently search, are blind.

people who blindly accept what they have been taught have been fitted with glasses colored by what they have been taught.

it might be good to take off the glasses

Are you saying that a person who has his eyes open is the one who believes in nothing? I don't mean science or things that can be proved or repeated. I mean believing in ANY thing that cannot be proved means your eyes are shut?

Wasn't it Plato that wrote an allegory about a cave?  I imagine there were lots of people there saying "open your eyes".  Some of them may even have been right.  And I'm sure the others would never have listened to reason.
