anjeelah,
Yes I too am astounded at what rich people often do with their wealth, and I know for certain if I were wealthy I would not spend my money extravagantly. Art certainly has its place in society, but 29 million for a temporary 16 day exhibit?? Come on, how is this ever okay?

With you on this one
What bothers me is that rich people (some of them perhaps) think nothing of throwing ridiculous sums money away on whims, but frown at assisting with urban renewal or world hunger and pandemic diseases. I don't know what they're thinking about. Nothing's wrong with patronizing or building the arts. I'm an artist of sorts as well, but I am concerned with priorities. Too bad I'm not rich...or maybe I'd become corrupt

.......NOT!

MayB,
No I don't think it is logical to apply that line of thinking to all art or artists, and yes it is EXACTLY the riduculous sum that offends me.

CA88,
I'm not disputing that it is art (okay, maybe a little)...but yes I find it a ridiculous waste of someone's money.

If you apply this logic all artists - visual, writers, performance - whatever should quit and start working to help people. all art museums should be disbanded. This blog site should disappear and all proceeds put into helping people. It is only the amount which offends you I think.

Its a never ending argument - how much one should pay for art, what is art? Its a bit like the chicken and the egg...
